Maspalomas Pride was held for the first time in 2002, and has grown significantly every year since. The event attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists every May, and as a result generates millions of Euros to the local economy.

 

The event is organised by GLAY who are a non profit organisation with the aim to fight against homosexual discrimination, organise cultural events to create support for the LGBT community, promote safe sex and improve social contacts between young gay people. Maspalomas Gay Pride is one of the events of GLAY which consist of elected members with professional experience in areas such as finance, management, marketing and entertainment.Maspalomas Pride and GLAY are politically and financially supported by local and regional government bodies such as the town hall, tourist boards and Canarian Government. Sponsors include big name brands such as Coca-Cola, Heineken, Red Bull and hotel partners such as Lopesan, all of who contribute towards the costs of staging pride events.

 

The event is attended by 70,000 international and 35,000 domestic visitors with an average age of 30-50, with more men than women. The largest visitor nationality are the British followed by German, Dutch, French, Italian, Scandinavian and Spanish. The festivities last for a week with an extensive events programme, most of which are centred around the Yumbo Centre with the main stage in the square.

Pink Party

 

In the main square of the Yumbo, the resident DJ blasts out the sounds of the charts followed by our PINK Samba band who will transport you to the Carnivals of Brazil whilst you dance under the stars. The bars in the Yumbo centre also organise their own pink themed events....remember to wear PINK!

 

Canarian Cruise
